Sod Turning Ceremony Marks Milestone in Ramp-Up Program
09-09-2025
Bethune, Saskatchewan – K+S Potash Canada marked a major milestone today with a ceremonial sod turning at its Bethune site, symbolizing the continued progress of the company’s multi-decade Ramp-Up Program.
Originally announced in 2022, Ramp-Up reflects K+S’s long-term vision to nearly double the current potash production at Bethune mine to 4 million tonnes per year. With
construction now underway on key growth projects, the company is beginning to transform vision into reality.
“This sod turning represents more than just the start of major construction—it’s a tangible step forward in our long-term commitment to growth, improving our cost positioning, and continuing our success story here in Canada,” said Dr. Carin-Martina Tröltzsch, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chair of the Board of Executive Directors of K+S Aktiengesellschaft. “K+S Potash Canada is an important part of our company strategy,” she adds.
The event included remarks from K+S leadership and community representatives, followed by a ceremonial sod turning for the expansion of the existing Compaction
facility, the largest individual investment in the program scope. All projects currently in construction will deliver steady production growth, improved site infrastructure, and will support long-term operational needs.
“There has been a lot of effort up to this point, but to turn shovels today and recognize the construction program ahead is a significant milestone,” said Sam Farris, President of K+S Potash Canada. “Growing Bethune mine ensures we will be operating in Saskatchewan for years to come.”
K+S continues to be committed to meaningful career opportunities; procurement of goods and services from local and Indigenous owned or partnered businesses; and
investment in the local and traditional communities. Efforts are underway to ensure local and Indigenous communities are engaged and informed throughout the Ramp-Up program.
