Pacific Coast Terminals and K+S Potash Canada Break Ground on Potash Handling and Storage Facility

PORT MOODY, BC – Today Pacific Coast Terminals Co. Ltd. (PCT) and K+S Potash Canada (KSPC) will officially break ground and begin modifications on PCT’s existing bulk handling facility, preparing the facility for its role in KSPC’s Legacy Project.

In the spring of 2014, PCT and KSPC signed an exclusive, long-term agreement that called for the construction of a new potash handling and storage facility at PCT’s bulk handling facility located in Port Moody near Vancouver, British Columbia. Potash products arriving by rail from the Saskatchewan-based Legacy mine will be stored on-site and transported to vessels destined for K+S Group’s international clients.

This past spring, PCT received the permit from Port Metro Vancouver (PMV) for the project, which will include the construction of a railcar unloading building and potash storage warehouse and upgrades to the water treatment facilities and ship-loading equipment.

“We have a very important relationship with Pacific Coast Terminals,” said Dr. Ulrich Lamp, President and CEO of K+S Potash Canada. “We were very pleased to sign the agreement with them in 2014 and to receive the permit this past spring. This groundbreaking ceremony is not only an indication of the Legacy Project’s progress but another step forward in a longstanding partnership.”

“PCT is very pleased that the partnership with KSPC is progressing as planned,” stated Lorne Friberg, President and CEO of Pacific Coast Terminals Co. Ltd. “The expansion of our operations allows for a greater contribution to the City of Port Moody in terms of new jobs, additional municipal taxes, and increased support to local community organizations and events. The project contributes to the sustainability of PCT, and it is key to our strategic positioning.”

K+S Potash Canada and Pacific Coast Terminals are forming this longstanding partnership to ensure that the transport of the potash products is delivered to K+S Group’s international clients in a manner that is both secure and competitive. Completion of the new potash handling facility is planned for late 2016.

Mr. Lorne Friberg, President and CEO of Pacific Coast Terminals; Dr. Andreas Radmacher, Member of the Board of Executive Directors, K+S AG; Dr. Ulrich Lamp, President and CEO of K+S Potash Canada; and Mr. Wade Leslie, Vice President and General Manager of Pacific Coast Terminals break ground on the Potash Handling and Storage Facility in Port Moody, B.C.
