K+S Potash Canada named one of Saskatchewan’s Top Employers for the Fourth Year
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – K+S Potash Canada GP (KSPC) has once again been recognized as one of 20 companies in the province named Saskatchewan’s Top Employers. This is the fourth year in a row that KSPC has received this special designation for providing an exceptional workplace to its employees.
“We are proud to be recognized as a Top Employer in this wonderful province,” said Dr. Ulrich Lamp, President and CEO of KSPC. “Since we arrived in Saskatchewan in 2011, KSPC has worked hard to develop a workplace and culture that would attract quality people to our company. When I look around at the team we have today, I know we’ve achieved that goal.”
KSPC currently employs approximately 375 permanent employees and 80 temporary employees to assist with commissioning at the company’s Legacy Project mine and production facility near Bethune, SK. KSPC’s target workforce is around 400 employees, so hiring is substantially complete just in time for the mine to be brought into production by the end of second quarter this year.
The company hired the bulk of its operational employees throughout 2015 and 2016, an effort that required over 100,000 person-hours to develop and deliver training. The major recruitment drive included numerous job fairs and marketing initiatives that earned KSPC the National Human Resources Best Recruitment Award in 2015.
“When I think back to 2012, when there were only twenty or so employees, and then look at where KSPC is now, we can all be so proud,” said Maryann Deutscher, Senior Manager, Human Resources. “We are all part of something really unique here. What was once a field in the middle of a prairie is now a state-of-the-art mine, nearly ready to go into production. We’ve literally been a part of this from the ground up.”
Saskatchewan’s Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the Leader-Post and The Star Phoenix. Employers are evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the same eight criteria as the national competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.
